Dr. Dori Baker and Dr. Patrick Reyes engage Yale Divinity School's Dr. Sarah Farmer in a conversation about the future of youth ministry as it relates to activities of the Yale Center for Faith and Culture and the Yale Youth Ministry Institute. Dr. Reyes and Dr. Baker delivered a lecture entitled, “Joy in the Aftermath of Violence,” as part of YMI's Summer Symposium: "Why Youth Ministry? A Beacon of Joy in the Midst of Suffering," held at Yale Divinity School in June 2017.
Lecture Abstract:
Like the writers of Lamentations and Psalms, adolescents cry out to God and to the leaders of the community to deliver them from interpersonal and structural violence. Using an interdisciplinary framework to understand how violence affects youth psycho-spiritually, we will offer practices that promote flourishing for youth pastors, community workers, and youth themselves.
