Dr. Sharon Galgay Ketcham discusses the tendency of churches today to act as parallel institutions rather than to collaborate and share resources in an interview with Skip Masback, founding Director of YMI, after delivering a lecture entitled, “Incubators for Joy: Communities of Care Amidst Family Instability” alongside Dr. Chap Clark as part of the Yale Youth Ministry Institute's 2017 Summer Symposium: Why Youth Ministry? A Beacon of Joy in the Midst of Suffering.
Lecture Abstract:
God created us to flourish. Yet family instability can rob many young people of joy-filled lives when unattended painful experiences give rise to sorrow-filled lives. We will explain how family instability disrupts adolescent joy and empower youth ministers to care for hurting teenagers by creating communities that act as “incubators” for the joy God intends.
