As you prepare for Advent starting on November 29th, we have resources to help you with embrace and engage in the season.
If you enjoy Bible studies, we have two studies on Advent that we previously recorded that you can watch at your convenience. They are Casting the Pageant: Meeting the Characters of Christmas Bible Study and INCARNATION — Fleshing Out the Bible’s Christmas Stories: An Online Yale Bible Study with the Rev. Dr. Allen Hilton.
For Casting the Pageant, the Rev. Dr. Hilton has some faithful fun with the annual Christmas pageant by meeting the characters of that story. He takes a deep dive into the stories behind those characters, using descriptions from their ancient social world to build a historically-based character profile for each part. To view, go here.
For INCARNATION, the Rev. Dr. Hilton explores how the Gospels approach the nativity story. The Gospels provide different stories about Jesus’ incarnation and birth. Prepare for Advent by watching the four videos in this series. To view, go here.
We also have a self-guided Bible study on the Gospel of Luke, which offers our most extensive look at the anticipation of Jesus’s Advent. If you have youth who would like to learn more, explore the Gospel of Luke for Youth Bible Study with them.
Finally, if you are looking for a new perspective on a specific Biblical text, we have our podcast, Chapter, Verse, and Season, where you can search “Advent” and find relevant readings. Start here for the first episode on Advent.
