Dear Friends,
Greetings from the Quad! September is nearly here and that means that students are returning to YDS and we are gearing up for the Yale Youth Ministry Institute 2019-2020 Lunch & Lecture Series! First, an update on what’s been happening at YMI and YDS.
Rev. Skip Masback founded the Youth Ministry Institute in 2012 with a mission to promote adolescent faith and flourishing by conducting scholarship, equipping leaders and resourcing communities in and beyond Christian churches. Since that time, YMI has developed a lecture series that draws nearly 150 people per month to the YDS campus; created a vast archive of videos including more than 70 full lectures on youth ministry and nearly 900 short interview clips—all available for free via YMI’s YouTube channel and seven Facebook pages in five different languages; distributed scholarships to more than 40 YDS students working in youth ministry; provided support to an interdenominational federated youth group in New Haven; and developed essays, monographs and curricular materials with YDS professors and scholars from around the world. After Skip’s retirement in December 2018, YDS Dean Greg Sterling brought YMI into the newly formed Center for Continuing Education at YDS which also includes the Yale Bible Study and the YDS Summer Study.
As the Managing Director of the Center for Continuing Education, it is my great honor to be a part of YMI. Having worked in local ministry for 17 years, with extensive involvement in youth ministry for all of those years, I share Skip’s passion for the formation of our youth. This summer, we have been hard at work redesigning the YMI website which will feature our vast video archives, courses and resources for ministry to youth. The site will go live this fall and we look forward to inviting you to explore and utilize the site.
The 2019-2020 YMI Lunch & Lecture series, Youth Ministry in a Modern Age, will focus on the principle foundations of youth ministry by exploring the unique concerns youth leaders are facing today. The series kicks off on Wednesday, October 9 with lunch at 12:00pm and a 12:30pm lecture by Skip Masback on Planning and Leading Retreats that Transform. As always, the lunches and lectures are free and open to all. The full 2019-2020 Lunch & Lecture series is outlined in the attached flyer, so please save the dates and RSVP with EventBrite. We hope that you will join us as we talk together about ministering to our youth today.
I look forward to meeting you all and to talking together about how we can continue to support the faith and flourish of our youth and our communities.
Peace,
Kelly Morrissey
