Resistance and Reconciliation, Evelyn Parker – Video and Discussion Outline
Dr. Evelyn Parker discusses the relationship between resistance and reconciliation with regard to issues of race.
Questions for all Youth Groups:
How might young people begin to constructively push against the racist culture in which they live? What might “oppositional imagination,” as Parker puts forth, look like?
What does forgiveness look like in the conversation about racism? Do you agree with Parker in her assessment that forgiveness is impossible without holding people accountable, and naming all of the wrongs of systemic racism?
When is it appropriate to move to redemptive acts as a community? And what needs to happen before then?
